What Walmart, Target and Best Buy will and won't price match, according to their own policies, plus a simple routine for getting the lowest price.

Key takeaways

  • Walmart stores match Walmart.com prices for identical items, not competitors.
  • Target runs a holiday price match: for purchases from November 1, 2026, Target matches its own lower price through December 24, 2026.
  • Best Buy matches listed Qualified Competitors and its own lower price during the return period.

Walmart

Walmart’s price match policy differs between stores and Walmart.com. For items bought in a Walmart U.S. store, Walmart will match the price of the identical item advertised on Walmart.com, as long as it is in stock online when you ask. Walmart says it does not match competitors’ online or in-store prices, may limit quantities, and some matches need supervisor approval. More Walmart savings.

Target

Target’s holiday Price Match Guarantee says that starting November 1, 2026, if you buy an item in store or online and the price goes lower at Target on or before December 24, 2026, you can request a price match. Outside that window, Target’s regular Price Match Guarantee and its exclusions apply; read them on Target’s help site. More Target savings.

Best Buy

Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee covers new items sold by Best Buy that are identical (same brand, model number and color) to a product from one of its Qualified Competitors, at the time of sale. If Best Buy lowers its own price during your return and exchange period, it will match its lower price on request. Marketplace products, clearance, refurbished and open-box items are excluded, and Best Buy allows one price match per identical item per customer. More Best Buy savings.

A routine that works

  1. Before checkout, search the exact model number at the store’s own website and at one or two competitors.
  2. Screenshot the lower price with the date visible.
  3. Ask at checkout or customer service, citing the policy.
  4. After a big purchase, set a reminder to re-check the price before your return window closes.
